Netflix Jostle With YouTube, Spotify For Podcast Jackpot

As the Podcast industry continues to amass prominence, becoming a Honeypot for both creators and digital content spaces, the incumbent champions in this lucrative industry; YouTube and Spotify might just be about to welcome a major contender, Netflix.

Over the years, YouTube and Spotify have harvested gold in the podcast space, with YouTube recently declaring that it’s the #1 spot for U.S. listeners to find podcasts. But as the podcast industry has grown, YouTube and Spotify have become interested in its next frontier: video podcasts.

Netflix, an American subscription video on-demand over-the-top streaming service wants to peep, to unravel what the secret sauce is there, suggesting that it might be content creators Hence, it wants video deals with them.

According to reliable sources, Netflix is presently exploring potential video deals with podcasters. This interest is spurred by YouTube’s consistent rise to not just podcasts, but TV dominance.

It becomes more glaring that Netflix is eagerly expanding its dominance and command into the world of video Podcast, as it has sealed some deals with YouTube creators, like The Sidemen, Ms. Rachel, Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson fight, which drove record new account signups. Netflix is also wooing non-podcast shows that started on YouTube, like The Amazing Digital Circus.

However, reports suggest that Netflix’s past attempts at talk shows were not very productive, and were mostly helmed by popular comedians.

Netflix executives reportedly aborted the idea of podcasting by those experiences, but are now warming up again.

“More recently they are exploring: Is this doable? Which one would make sense for us? They ask about specific names,” a person familiar with the matter said. “It’s a way to get an amazing volume of content at a fraction of what they pay for scripted and unscripted budgets.”

Despite that YouTube remains a model and motivation for Netflix, Netflix is determined to add an unprecedented spice to its style of podcasting. Reports have revealed that when Netflix was pursuing Cooper and Unwell, it wanted to create original TV shows with her at the center–something similar to Smartless: On The Road, a TV show based on Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes‘ podcast of the same name.

With YouTube’s dominance and authority in the podcast industry, sources have noted that Netflix might let go overthrowing the master, YouTube, therebyredirecting its entire business model to focus on digital content creators and video podcasts.
