Nigerian Born Cynthia Erivo To Play Jesus In Hollywood Bowl Musical

Hollywood bowl has thrilled fans with its announcement to cast Nigerian-born British actress Cynthia Erivo, to play the role of Jesus in the upcoming musical ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ at the Hollywood Bowl.

Hollywood Bowl made the announcement via its official Instagram page on Wednesday.

The statement said, “Just announced! #cynthiaerivo joins the Hollywood Bowl’s production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” this summer.

“The Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winner, and three-time Oscar nominee is cast as Jesus in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical.”

The show, which will run from August 1 to August 3, is a rock opera classic written by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

It reflects the final days of Jesus Christ through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. According to the organizers, the musical explores the personal struggles and relationships between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, followers, and the Roman Empire, told entirely through song.

According to the organizers, the production will be directed and choreographed by Colombian-American Sergio Trujillo, with Stephen Oremus serving as musical director and conductor.

‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, Originally released as a concept album, became a Broadway sensation in 1971, later grossing over $237 million worldwide by 1980.

Erivo, known for her powerful stage and screen performances, has been widely recognized since the beginning of her career in 2011, earning global acclaim, awards and numerous accolades, including Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winner, as well as three Oscar nominations.
