NTDA DG, Folorunsho Coker Tipped For Bigger Appointment As Tenure Winds Down
By Adeshina Timothy
Following his two-term successful tenure as the Director-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA), Folorunso Coker is favoured to land a new political appointment with bigger responsibility.
The tourism industry icon has previously worked in 1999 as Personal Assistant to President Bolaj Ahmed Tinubu and is now tipped to reunite with his former boss in a new appointment.
There are strong speculations that he may transition into a broader role within Nigeria’s economic landscape or creative sector, leveraging his vast experience in governance, hospitality, and tourism marketing.
Coker’s impressive record as NTDA DG saw him drive Nigeria’s tourism sector with never-seen-before innovative campaigns like Tour Nigeria while also championing digital transformation in the industry. His fresh breath of phenomenal legacy of growth and modernisation would be indelible in the NDTA.
With a formidable track record of driving tourism as a tool for economic diversification, many believe Coker will continue shaping Nigeria’s travel and hospitality landscape in one capacity or another. Whether through policy advocacy, entrepreneurship, or another leadership role, one thing is certain his influence in the sector is far from over.
After serving as personal assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while he was Governor of Lagos State, in 2003, Coker was appointed Deputy Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Government.
Folorunsho has held different positions among which was Commissioner for Tourism, Arts & Culture for Lagos State. In March 2017, he was appointed Director General of Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation by President Muhammad Buhari.
