As the furore between Gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo and her former Record Label boss, Ezekiel Thank God, popularly known as Eezee Concept deepens, founder of Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has stirred another controversy by accusing gospel musicians of being driven by financial reward.
According the Christian leader, the love for money was the key reason why prominent gospel singers groomed left his church. Oyakhilome’s Christ Embassy has been pivotal to the success of gospel artists who have moved on with their music such as Frank Edward, Sinach, Moses Bliss, Eben, Ada Ehi among others.
In a panel-like discussion, Pastor Oyakhilome noted that he once invested in gospel musicians, but he desisted from investing in them after he realized that they were not committed to winning souls for God, but only interested in the money the got from Church.
Oyakhilome further warned Pastors to stop enabling gospel singers who saw song ministration as a business. He noted that “How many of those singers were soul winners? They were never soul winners. They’ll lead praise in the Church, and when it’s time for prayer, they’re out. They’ve gone to another church to do another song. They were professionals. They charge for their service. Making money from the church. Pretending they were singing praise to God. It was all a charade. They were bringing the world into the church, and many pastors didn’t know. I did at the beginning, when I changed, they refused to change with me. I had to let them go.”
Other pastors who have condemned gospel musicians who make money off the church for their song ministry include Pastor Abel Damina, Pastor Olumide Emmanuel, among others.
